It's been a while since I just wrote about myself and not anything or anyone else. Well, last night I spoke at my church's ladies meeting. It was fun! I spoke on love - the "love"chapter - 1 Corinthians 13. Love is patient, kind, blah, blah, you get the drift. It was awesome.I included some scenes from movies to go with each different kind of love.

1. Love is Patient - The Notebook - 1 Cor. 13:4

Who here can wait all those years for the one you love? Jacob, in the Bible, waited for his love for FOURTEEN years. Sheesh! That is some patient love right there.

2. Love is not Selfish - Pride and Prejudice - 1 Cor. 13:5

I love this scene from one of my favorite movies of all times. They both were, at times, full of pride and prejudice towards people of other status', but in the end, it was their selfless love that was so beautiful. In the Bible, Queen Esther put aside her social position and acted out this brave, selfless deed and in turn saved her people from destruction! :)

3. Love rejoices in truth - Penelope - 1 Cor. 13:6

I love this movie! I also love this particualr scene because of one little fact - he kisses her before he even realizes that the curse is broken! One HUGE difference separating him from all the other men before him, he knew the truth about Penelope. He saw her for who she really was...so sweet. Mary and Joseph can relate. Especially Joseph. He could've easily been scared and ran away from the fact that his fiance was pregnant from the Holy Spirit. Like, what? But no. He knew the truth about her! And that kind of love rejoices in that truth to create a very special love.

4. Love always Protects - Twilight - 1 Cor. 13:7

If you could wrap your head around this: Bella has ALL these people protecting her; even so far as to go to war to protect her and why? Because of love. Different kinds of loves, but love nonetheless. A love that protects! Boaz had that kind of protective love for Ruth. Check out their story in the Bible. It is incredibly romantic and sweet.

5. Love hopes for the Best - Fireproof - 1 Cor. 13:7

Gah! That apology is the coolest, sweetest, most romantic apology ever!! Here is this jerk of a husband who has been trying to make it right with his wife. She's not 100% sold on that notion and in he swoops with this apology. He hoped beyond hope that their marriage would work out. Watch that movie to find out what happens! It's beyond awesome. Another couple from the Bible that hoped for the best is Abraham and Sarah. They didn't receive their promise of a son until they were in their 90's!! Seriously. But they still did not give up hope and when it came time to tell them they would have a son, Sarah laughed. Hah! I would too! Ironically, their son's name means, "He laughs." :)

6. Love always Perseveres - An Affair to Remember - 1 Cor. 13:7

This is seriously my favorite movie of all time. It's my favorite for many different reasons, and one of them being that they went through SO much and in the end, their love overcame it all! Adam and Eve is not a classic love story in the Bible, but they have an incredible, persevering love! Through their kid killing their kid, being kicked out of their gorgeous garden home, getting curses that still plague mankind today, their love withstood it all. Because of their dedication to each other, their son Seth was the bloodline that Jesus came from! Such an amazing love indeed!

7. Love never Fails - The Passion of the Christ - 1 Cor. 13:8
Who am I that Christ would die for me? But he did! And he did it for every single one of us whether we believe it or not, whether we choose to accept it or not, whether or not we love him back, Christ loves us unconditionally and guess what? His love NEVER fails! There was a couple in the Bible that parallels God's love for man. That was Hosea the prophet and his prostitute wife Gomer. God told Hosea to marry Gomer - a prostitute, he did and she cheated on him. But Hosea continued to love her even more. She came back to him in time.

Will you turn back to Christ? Life is too short to waste it! I love you all with a love so fierce! :)

Flavor of my Life: A Chocolate Lover's Confession

Chocolate? Vanilla? Strawberry? Those three flavors are the basis for any great dessert - especially ice cream. But if you really want to tickle my taste buds, combining the power of peanut butter with chocolate is near heavenly. When I asked my class of children (ranging from ages 7 - 12) what their favorite ice cream flavors were, the answers varied, but were surprisingly traditional. When they asked me the same question, without hesitation, I replied with my heavenly duo. Their response? Groans of disgust. I was a little surprised at their lack of imagination - them being kids and all. However, it makes sense when you think of their ever-growing palette. Heck, I'm still picky and in my thirties. But chocolate and peanut butter?! Mmm. Yes, I am writing an entire post about chocolate and peanut butter. In fact, I'll share a recent find of 20 mind-blowing recipes of the all-too-perfect flavor combo. One of my favorite places to go and enjoy these two flavors toget...

Rainy Days Are The Best....

We recently had a couple of rainy days. In fact, as I write this now, the skies are overcast and the temperature cool. It's a rare change for this Southern California girl. Lovin' it! So, as I think about the upcoming weather changes and the holidays that come with it, I also think about the perfect ideas for those rainy days. Here are some of my favorites for those days that come far too rarely and stay far too short. Favorite Rainy Day Film © 2005 - Focus Features Pride & Prejudice is a great movie for those days when it's pouring outside and you're curled up on the couch in your favorite pajamas. The classic love story washes and cleanses your cynical soul from the realities that may surround you. Or is that just because I'm single? Regardless, with its beautiful cinematography and flawless acting by all those cast; Pride & Prejudice is the ultimate go-to for those cozy days spent lying on the couch with absolutely nothing t...

Commitment in Helplessness

Image credit: Ben Hall It's the age-old question: Why do bad things happen to good people? In times of helplessness, it's easy to look around and ask where God is in all of this. We often question why things happen to good people while bad people get away with stuff. That kind of fruitless thinking will certainly drive you mad! God is not a respecter of persons. He does not play favorites; he does not show favortism. Instead of focusing on the negatives that you come across or the injustice in the world, focus and rely on Him. It may be difficult when that's all you really can do, but ultimately He'll direct your path and you'll be rewarded when you seek Him - in total trust and abandonment. A portion of scripture I've come to really love and understand is Psalm 10. It asks all the questions one does in times of helplessness, reveals the injustices of this world, and then flips everything around and looks to the Lord with praise and a cry for help -...
